Manu Katché - Neighbourhood

Good, acoustic jazz funk featuring Manu Katché on drums with Jan Garbarek, Tomasz Stanko and Tomasz Stanko's rhythm section. It doesn't really swing, at least not in the conventional sense, and I'm just not sure about Jan Garbarek - his tone just brings back memories of gregorian chant classicfm jazz. Favourite tracks are "November 99", lovely bass theme and "Take Off and Land".

Ah, it appears he's a rock drummer who's played with Sting and Peter Gabriel, that would explain the lack of swing.

I've also been listening to the new album from Loka, not amazing but kind of electric Miles meets The Cinematic Orchestra

talked

Here are my notes and slides (PDF) from my talk at XTech - "Chopping Up Radio - collaboratively annotating radio programmes". Seemed to go down well and had quite a few questions. Suw Sharman has also written up a summary.

Just about to leave for XTech 2006 in Amsterdam. I'm speaking about the BBC's Annotatable Audio project on Wednesday afternoon. I'll post up my slides and notes here afterwards.

Why is it called cookin'/relaxin'? They're the titles of two of a series of Miles Davis albums which also describe some of my favourite things.
