The Internet of Things

I'm slightly obsessed with physical prototyping at the moment - see make. Though I haven't done anything about it yet.

Is hacking the physical world the next frontier for hackers/geeks?

After all, anyone can build a web application now.

And "The Internet of Things"...

You might find my blog of interest then. Previously I ripped 3D data from a videostream and converted it to manufacturable CAD. Before that, in July 2004, I created something which is now being called a blogject. Images can be found at http://www.coroflot.com/ykh-01 . That was intended for a design competition.

The entire project was done in four days - from coming up with the idea to the final images shown here. It didn't place. However, I did send this off to my state senators. They never responded though (no surprise). Fun to see this kind of thing take off now however.

You might also find one of my recent entries of interest ( http://blog.rebang.com/?p=772 ) as it gets into a "dual-reality spime" concept (I don't know what to call it yet; "transpime"?). The idea is that one object (whether real or virtual) can spawn an object in the "other world". The two remain in communication. When one object "dies", its information is carried forward by the other, which can then be used to create an upgraded replacement.

Anyway, stop in sometime.

about this blog

I'm Tristan Ferne and I'm the lead producer in the BBC R&D Prototyping team. I'm interested in lots of things, but here I write about the web, media, music and books. You can contact me at tristan.ferne at gmail[dot]com or I'm @tristanf on Twitter.

Why is it called cookin'/relaxin'? They're the titles of two of a series of Miles Davis albums which also describe some of my favourite things.
